Congress leaders are likely to ask whether the BJP still stands by its earlier allegations or considers them no longer relevant following his induction

Guwahati: The induction of former Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sparked a fresh political debate in Assam, with questions emerging over whether serious allegations earlier levelled against him by the party will now be set aside.

Bordoloi formally joined the BJP in New Delhi on March 18 in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Dilip Saikia.

However, the political narrative surrounding his entry appears to contrast sharply with the party’s position just months ago. On August 2, 2025, the Assam BJP had launched a strong attack on Bordoloi through its official social media handle, describing him as “one of the most corrupt, manipulative power-brokers Assam has ever seen.”

The post had also alleged that Bordoloi was part of a wider network of leaders who treated Assam as their “personal fiefdom.”

With Bordoloi now joining the BJP, opposition voices within the Indian National Congress are expected to question the party’s apparent change in stance. Congress leaders are likely to ask whether the BJP still stands by its earlier allegations or considers them no longer relevant following his induction.

Political observers say the development could intensify the political exchange between the ruling party and the opposition in the coming days.
