Silchar: The Public Works (Roads) Department under the Silchar and Udharbond Territorial Road Division has announced that the Silchar–Fulertal road connecting Kanakpur will remain closed for heavy vehicular traffic for three months, starting November 18. The move comes as part of the department’s plan to dismantle the existing bridge and construct a new RCC bridge in its place.

According to an official notification issued by Executive Engineer Aniruddha Nag, the closure will remain in effect from November 18, 2025, to February 18, 2026. During this period, heavy vehicles will not be permitted to use the bridge. However, two-wheelers and three-wheelers will be allowed to ply through the newly developed stretch adjacent to the construction site.

To minimize disruption, the administration has arranged an alternative diversion route for other vehicles via Nathpara Road through Berenga, ensuring that essential transport and local traffic continue without major hindrance.

The PWRD authorities have apologized for the inconvenience the temporary restrictions may cause and urged commuters to cooperate with the department for the smooth execution of the project.

Once completed, the new RCC bridge is expected to significantly improve connectivity, road safety, and travel efficiency for residents of Silchar, Kanakpur, and surrounding areas—benefiting hundreds of commuters who rely on this key route daily.
