Silchar: In an effort to encourage girls to explore careers in science and technology, the Cachar District Administration, in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti, organised an exposure tour to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar on Friday under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.

Flagging off the tour, Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav highlighted the importance of empowering girls through education.

“This is not just a policy but a mission to build an equitable future. Opportunities like these inspire our daughters to dream big, break barriers, and excel in science and technology,” he said.

The tour was inaugurated by DC Mridul Yadav, Additional DC (Women & Child Development) Phyllis V.L. Hmunsiami Hrangchal, and Assistant Commissioner & In-charge District Social Welfare Officer Deepa Das. Thirty-five students from leading government schools—including D.N.N.K. Girls HS School, Government Girls HS School, Dr. B.C. Roy Memorial Academy, and C.L. Seth Institute—participated.

Guided by Social Welfare Department staff and interns from Assam University’s Department of Social Work, the students explored NIT’s academic and research facilities, gaining first-hand exposure to innovations in engineering and sciences.

Officials expressed hope that the initiative would inspire many of the participants to become future scientists, engineers, and innovators, furthering the government’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment through education.
