Silchar: The Cachar district administration has launched a ten-day awareness drive to strengthen women’s empowerment and ensure government schemes reach every part of the district. The campaign is being led by District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, and jointly organized with the Department of Women and Child Development.
The programme opened with a review meeting at the DC’s office under the banner of Sankalp, Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW). Officials from multiple departments, social welfare officers, coordinators, and institutional representatives took part, reflecting a push for stronger inter-departmental cooperation.
Deepa Das, ACS, Assistant Commissioner and in-charge District Social Welfare Officer, welcomed participants and stressed that women must be seen not only as beneficiaries of welfare schemes but also as active contributors to Cachar’s growth. Bonani Bhattacharjee, District Mission Coordinator of Sankalp HEW, then presented the ten-day action plan, which includes training sessions, awareness programmes, and access to institutional support.
Chairing the deliberations, Phyllis Hrangchal, ACS, ADC (WCD), said women’s empowerment demands coordination across education, health, livelihood, and protection services. Her call for shared responsibility drew wide support from participants.
A key focus of the meeting was Mission Shakti, the Government of India’s flagship scheme promoting women’s safety, dignity, and empowerment. CDPOs, block coordinators, and officials from the One Stop Centre, Shakti Sadan, Poshan Abhiyan, along with health, education, and child protection representatives, all took part.
Over the next ten days, the campaign will reach every block of the district through workshops, outreach sessions, and awareness drives. It will highlight maternal and child health, girls’ education, livelihood opportunities through self-help groups, and strengthening safety mechanisms. By involving departments from health and education to ASRLM and DCPU, the administration aims to deliver women’s welfare as a connected support system rather than fragmented schemes.
Officials at the meeting said Cachar is at a turning point where investment in women’s empowerment can bring broad social change. They noted that gains in education, healthcare, and livelihood for women ripple out to families, villages, and the district as a whole.
With DC Mridul Yadav at the helm, the administration stressed that women’s empowerment in Cachar is not just policy language but a measurable goal. The drive, they said, is a pledge to hear women’s voices, protect their rights, and create opportunities that allow them to shape the district’s future.
