Silchar: The Cachar District Administration, under the 10-day Special Awareness Campaign of the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, organized an awareness-cum-training session on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and the She-Box Portal at the Conference Hall of the Co-District Commissioner, Lakhipur, on Saturday.

The programme, held in collaboration with Cachar Mission Shakti and supported by key district departments, brought together officials from various administrative and developmental blocks to strengthen gender sensitization and workplace safety.

Delivering the keynote address, CDC Lakhipur Dhrubajyoti Pathak underlined the administration’s commitment to creating secure and inclusive workplaces across Cachar. He noted that the POSH Act and She-Box Portal are not just legal safeguards but essential tools to build a culture of dignity and respect at work.

Stressing the need for early intervention and proactive reporting, Pathak said: “Every complaint, every grievance, every voice matters. Our responsibility as administrators is to ensure that no individual faces harassment or discrimination while performing their duties.”

Assistant Commissioner and in-charge Social Welfare Officer, Deepa Das, in her welcome remarks, commended the efforts of the Sankalp Hub and the Department of Women and Child Development in driving the initiative.

She emphasized that training and awareness equip officials to identify subtle forms of harassment and respond decisively. “Safe workplaces are the foundation of efficient governance,” she said, urging collective vigilance and inter-departmental cooperation to foster equality and respect.

The training, facilitated by Bonani Bhattacharjee, District Mission Coordinator of the Sankalp Hub, covered the evolution of the POSH Act from the Vishaka Guidelines, its key provisions, roles and responsibilities of Internal and Local Committees, grievance timelines, penalties for non-compliance, and the use of the She-Box Portal as a single-window online mechanism.

Dr. Vikram Srivastava, Advocate and Founder of Independent Thought Partner, UNICEF, joined virtually as a resource person, offering insights on strengthening workplace safety and accountability.

The programme was attended by Rituparna Bhadra, ALRS, Circle Officer of Lakhipur Revenue Circle; Chandan Kalita, ALRS, Attached Circle Officer of Lakhipur Revenue Circle; and officials from ICDS, Health, PHE, Education, P&RD, and other departments from Lakhipur, Rajabazar, and Binnakandi blocks.
