Silchar: The district-level launch of National Deworming Day took place at Abhayacharan Bhattacharjee LP School in Silchar, where District Commissioner Mridul Yadav stressed that a nation’s strength begins with the health of its children. Speaking to students and officials, he urged young learners to build simple habits around hygiene and nutrition, saying these shape their growth, immunity and long-term well-being.

The programme was organised by the District Administration Cachar in partnership with the Health Department and drew participation from teachers, health workers and officials. Yadav’s message set the tone for the campaign, which aims to improve child health through regular deworming and wider awareness.

Rahul Ghose, DPM, NHM, opened the event by explaining why National Deworming Day remains crucial in preventing worm-related diseases among children. He was followed by Dr Shibananda Roy, Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar, who spoke about the broader goals of the initiative and how periodic deworming supports nutrition and academic performance.

The gathering included Deepa Das, ACS, Branch Officer (Health), Dr Rumel Tapadar, In-charge of Silchar Urban PHC, Ujjal Das, DCM, NHM, Dr Gulbahar Raj, DME, Nabarun Chakraborty, BRP, and Amit Nag. Teachers, ANMs, ASHAs and Anganwadi Workers from the area were also present, reflecting strong community involvement.

To mark the formal start of the district-wide drive, the DC administered Albendazole tablets to a few students who had eaten their morning meal. The event ended with a collective pledge to promote health awareness and support the well-being of children across Cachar.
