Silchar : Gandhi Bhawan came alive on Friday as Cachar celebrated the 64th Teachers’ Day with reverence and gratitude. The programme, organised by the District Administration and the Inspector of Schools under the Teachers’ Day Celebration Committee, paid homage to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the philosopher-president whose birth anniversary is observed nationwide.

The chief guest, Guru Charan University Vice Chancellor Prof. Niranjan Roy, delivered the keynote address. Reflecting on Dr. Radhakrishnan’s legacy, he described him as “a beacon of wisdom whose thoughts continue to illuminate Indian education.” Prof. Roy stressed that teachers must go beyond textbooks, serving as torchbearers of curiosity, creativity, and moral strength.

He called for nurturing critical thinking, compassion, and extracurricular talent, saying, “Inspiring the next generation means preparing them for life, not just for jobs.”
Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, attending as guest of honour, hailed teachers as true nation-builders and urged youth to draw inspiration from them. Additional District Commissioner (Education) Antara Sen emphasised holistic education that balances academics with character-building, while Cachar College Principal Dr. Apratim Nag highlighted the transformative role of teachers.
