District Convergence meeting charts roadmap for population fortnight, stop Diarrhoea campaign, and JE preparedness

SILCHAR : In a decisive move to bolster public health and safeguard the lives of its citizens, Cachar District Health Department convened a comprehensive convergence meeting on Monday, bringing together key stakeholders to strategize for three critical health initiatives the World Population Fortnight 2025, the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2025, and intensified preparedness against Japanese Encephalitis (JE).
The high-level meeting reflected the district’s commitment to a collaborative, multi-sectoral approach in addressing pressing health challenges.
The meeting, held in Silchar, witnessed the participation of Deepa Das, ACS, Branch Officer (Health); Dr. Shibananda Roy, Joint Director of Health Services; Dr. Moinal Haque Barbhuiya, Additional Chief Medical & Health Officer; Dr. Ratna Chakroborty, District Tuberculosis Officer; Dr. Ayesha Begum, Deputy Superintendent of Silchar Medical College & Hospital; SDM&HOs of all BPHCs; and representatives from DPMU, BPMU under NHM Cachar, Education, Social Welfare, ASRLM, Jal Jeevan Mission, NYKS, and several private hospitals signaling an inclusive and united front.
As part of the World Population Day observance on July 11, a series of family planning service camps will be organized across government and private health facilities. These camps will provide laparoscopic sterilizations, IUCD insertions, Antara injections, and personalized counseling, echoing the Government’s vision for population stabilization and access to safe family planning solutions.

The Stop Diarrhoea Campaign running through July and August will intensify efforts to combat childhood diarrhoeal diseases, a major cause of illness and death among under-five children. ASHA workers will distribute ORS packets to every child in this age group and educate parents and caregivers on proper preparation and use of ORS, ensuring that the message of prevention reaches every household.
The campaign hinges on close coordination between government departments and private health providers to maximize outreach.
Adding to the district’s robust health agenda, Dr. Ratna Chakroborty announced the launch of the TB Mukta Bharat initiative from July 1, which aims at large-scale screening for tuberculosis symptoms and providing free treatment for those diagnosed, reinforcing the national goal of eliminating TB.

In addressing JE-related concerns, Dr. Shibananda Roy highlighted that while symptoms resembling JE had been reported, the confirmed cause of death in a recent case was meningitis.
Nevertheless, all health facilities government and private have been directed to promptly report any fever cases, undertake necessary investigations for JE, and alert the Health Department for swift intervention.
The meeting also took stock of progress under the Wage Compensation Scheme for tea garden workers, reviewed the e-KYC process for PMJAY (Ayushman Bharat cards), and assessed preparations for National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification of health facilities, demonstrating the district’s unwavering focus on strengthening healthcare systems on all fronts.
