Silchar: In a bid to restore order and uphold road safety, the Cachar District Administration, Assam Police, and the District Transport Office have launched a coordinated crackdown on unauthorised vehicle modifications across the district. The drive, which began in May, has already resulted in significant penalties and continues to gather momentum with a clear message: violations will not be tolerated.

Leading the initiative, District Commissioner Mridul Yadav has emphasised that public safety remains the topmost priority. “Unauthorised vehicle alterations not only violate legal norms but also pose serious threats to the safety of all road users,” said DC Yadav. He underlined the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on the matter, calling for strict adherence to transport regulations.

District Transport Officer Ramesh Shyam, who is overseeing on-ground enforcement, informed that over 30 cases of illegal modifications have already been detected, with e-challans issued and fines totaling ₹1.5 lakh collected. He stated that the campaign will continue relentlessly till the end of July 2025.

“Our teams are vigilant and fully committed to ensuring compliance,” DTO Shyam asserted. “Even seemingly minor changes in vehicle structure or features can result in major hazards. We are appealing to all vehicle owners to follow the rules strictly.”

Joint teams from the Transport Department and Assam Police have been conducting systematic inspections across urban and rural areas alike from busy market zones to interior roads. Vehicles found in violation have been penalised, and their owners cautioned against further defiance of the law.

DTO Shyam warned that failure to comply will attract harsher penalties in the coming weeks. “The public must understand that road safety is a shared responsibility. Continued violations will only lead to stronger enforcement measures.”

As the drive gains traction, the unified stance of Cachar’s administrative and law enforcement bodies signals a decisive shift towards disciplined and safer road practices. The ongoing campaign is not just a punitive measure but a call to action urging citizens to become active participants in making the district’s roads safer for all.

The details were shared in an official press release issued by the Regional Office of Information and Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Assam.
