Silchar: Cachar is set to host a day-long Border Festival at Dholai on November 24, an event aimed at bringing together communities from Assam and Mizoram through culture, sports, and shared tradition. A preparatory meeting was held on Thursday at the co-district office in Dholai, where officials from both states reviewed logistics and outlined the final plan.

Senior officials from Mizoram took part in the discussions, including H. Vanlalbiakzauva, SDO (Civil), Vairengte, and Lalnufela Chawngthu, SDO (Sadar), Mamit. From the Cachar administration, the meeting was chaired by District Development Commissioner Norsing Bey, who stressed the need for close coordination between the two sides.

Co District Commissioner Roktim Baruah led the on-ground preparations, with Assistant Commissioner and BDO (in charge), Dholai–Narsingpur Block, Neihat Haolai, Assistant Commissioner Bonnykha Chetia, Sonai Circle Officer Maria Tanim, and DDIPR Barak Valley Zone in-charge Deepa Das reviewing cultural, security, and logistical requirements.

Sports will be a key attraction on the day of the festival. The B.N.M.P. School field will host a friendly football match followed by a volleyball match between teams from Cachar and Mizoram, underscoring the event’s focus on unity and goodwill.

The CDC Dholai office ground will run a cultural programme from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring performances by troupes from Vairengte, Mamit, and Cachar. The showcase is expected to highlight the shared heritage and vibrant traditions of communities living along the border.

To add a regional flavour, ASRLM will set up food stalls offering traditional dishes, giving visitors an easy way to sample local cuisine.

The administration hopes the Border Festival will strengthen ties between Assam and Mizoram while celebrating the cultural richness of the border region.
