Silchar: The NSS Cell of Assam University, Silchar, organized a Capacity Building Program on Community Engagement (Prevention and Management of Cancer). The event was held at the university premises and saw the presence of esteemed guests, including Dr. Benazir Barlasakar, Oncologist from Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Prof. M. Gangabushan, Program Coordinator, and Dr. Shubhdeep Roy Chowdhury, Program Officer, NSS Cell.

The session began with the inauguration speech by Prof. M. Gangabushan, who welcomed the guests and participants, and expressed gratitude to Dr. Barlasakar for her presence. Prof. Gangabushan reiterated the importance of Youth engagement for prevention of addictions among youngsters and possible scope to do something for the community.

The event saw participation from various departments of the university, with one male and one female student, along with one research scholar, nominated by the heads of the departments. A total of approximately 90 students participated in the program.

Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, the Vice-Chancellor, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of cancer awareness and the role of the university in spreading awareness. He also shared his insights on the significance of early detection and prevention of cancer.

Dr. Benazir Barlasakar, the chief speaker, delivered an enlightening talk on breast cancer, highlighting that it is not exclusive to females, but males can also be affected. She demonstrated self-examination techniques and provided guidance on how to diagnose breast cancer. The doctor also discussed the importance of breast cancer awareness and the steps that can be taken to prevent it.

Dr. Shubhdeep Roy Chowdhury, Program Officer, NSS Cell, was also present during the session, and played a key role in organizing the event.

The interactive session was engaging, with students actively participating and asking questions. The event aimed to educate students on the risks and prevention of cancer, and the presence of experts provided valuable insights to the participants.
