Silchar: The district conference of the All Assam Construction Workers’ Union, affiliated with CITU, was held on Thursday at Shaheed Smriti Bhawan, Malugram, Silchar.
CITU State General Secretary Tapan Sharma and State Treasurer Bhola Sharma attended the conference, which saw the participation of over a hundred delegates. The meeting reviewed the union’s activities over the past three years, with delegates voicing strong resentment against the state government for allegedly depriving construction workers of pension, healthcare benefits, and scholarships for their children.
In their addresses, Tapan Sharma and Bhola Sharma highlighted the prevailing political and economic challenges and emphasized the need for strengthening the organization.
A new 31-member district committee was formed, with Dilwar Hussain elected as President, Surajit Ghosh as General Secretary, and Partha Chakraborty as Treasurer. The conference also resolved to bifurcate the earlier Cachar-Hailakandi joint district committee and form a separate Hailakandi unit.
