Silchar: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Monday observed Samrajyavad Virodh Diwas with protests across the country against US trade policies and global conflicts.
In Silchar, a street meeting was held in front of Goldighi Municipal Mall, where leaders including Supriya Bhattacharjee, Arup Chakraborty, and Surajit Ghosh addressed the gathering.
Speakers denounced US President Donald Trump’s move to impose a 50 percent tariff on Indian goods, warning it would cripple the textile and agriculture sectors, shut down industries, and throw millions out of work. They also cautioned that prices of essential commodities would rise sharply, while accusing the central government of maintaining silence on the issue.
Protesters further condemned America’s backing of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, calling it “unprecedented genocide.” They added that the Modi government has remained mute even as Trump continues to pressure India over oil imports from Russia.
