Silchar: In a significant step towards tackling Silchar’s urban challenges, an inter-departmental meeting was held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Mridul Yadav, District Commissioner of Cachar. The meeting, convened at the newly inaugurated conference hall of the DC’s office, brought together officials from multiple departments, including Srishti Singh, Commissioner of the Silchar Municipal Corporation.
The high-level discussion focused on fostering better coordination among departments to ensure timely and effective resolution of key civic issues, particularly those aggravated during the monsoon.
The District Commissioner stressed the need for proactive urban planning and robust inter-agency cooperation to address problems such as traffic congestion, waterlogging, and delays in infrastructure projects. “A seamless civic response is crucial to safeguarding public welfare and enhancing the quality of life in Silchar,” Yadav said.
Among the top priorities outlined were: Streamlining traffic management to reduce congestion across town. Immediate desilting and upkeep of drains and water bodies to prevent flooding.
Timely completion of urban development projects without compromising on standards.
Srishti Singh highlighted the urgent need for systematic drainage and sewage maintenance. She called for comprehensive desilting operations and improved monitoring to prevent urban flooding. “We must build accountability into every stage of execution,” she added.
The meeting concluded with firm directives to all departments to work in close coordination and implement solutions without delay. Both the District Administration and the Municipal Corporation reaffirmed their joint commitment to building a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Silchar.
