Silchar: The Cachar District Administration observed Janajatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada at Joypur Tribal Village under Rajabazar Development Block on Tuesday, celebrating the legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda with a blend of community service, environmental action, and financial literacy initiatives.
The day began with a cleanliness drive at Joypur Tribal Village, where officials, villagers, and volunteers came together to promote hygiene and environmental responsibility. This was followed by a plantation drive led by Aadi Karmayogis and Aadi Sahyogis of Rajabazar Block, symbolising sustainability and the deep connection between tribal communities and nature.

At the Shivasthan Community Hall in Joypur Pt IV, officials and community members paid floral tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda, honouring his contribution to India’s freedom struggle and his enduring advocacy for the rights and dignity of tribal communities.
The ceremony was attended by the Assistant Commissioner, district officers, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Rajabazar, Gaon Panchayat President, President of the ST Morcha Association, and representatives from various tribal groups.
A Financial Literacy Training Programme followed the tribute ceremony, aimed at promoting economic self-reliance among tribal and rural households. Lead District Manager briefed the participants on Jan Dhan Accounts, Digital India initiatives, and cashless transactions, encouraging the adoption of digital banking for transparency and safety.

The District Fishery Officer highlighted the opportunities under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), encouraging tribal youth to explore fisheries as a viable livelihood option.
In his address, the BDO of Rajabazar Block elaborated on key welfare schemes including DAJGUA, MGNREGA, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the 15th Finance Commission Grants, Old Age Pension, and Orunodoi 3.0. He urged people to actively engage with these programmes to improve their socio-economic conditions.
