The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening the state’s women-led economy

Lakhipur: In a major push for women’s economic empowerment, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday launched the cheque distribution under the Mukhya Mantrir Mahila Udyamita Abhijan (MMUA) at the Laboc Tea Estate Field in Lakhipur.
The event drew an impressive crowd of over 20,000 women from across the region, marking a significant milestone in the state government’s mission to boost self-employment and entrepreneurship among women.

As part of the initiative, a total of 19,318 members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from the Lakhipur Legislative Assembly Constituency received Rs.10,000 each as seed capital. Of these, 18,600 beneficiaries were from rural areas and 718 from urban areas.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening the state’s women-led economy. He said that schemes like MMUA are designed to encourage women to start small businesses, achieve financial independence, and contribute to the state’s development.
Local leaders, senior government officials, and representatives from various women’s groups were also present during the programme. The event saw enthusiastic participation, with many beneficiaries expressing gratitude to the government for supporting their entrepreneurial aspirations.
The Mukhya Mantrir Mahila Udyamita Abhijan aims to empower lakhs of women across Assam by providing financial assistance, training, and resources to help them establish sustainable livelihood ventures.
