Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired the second meeting of the State Cabinet on Friday, soon after taking charge. The meeting reviewed the present situation in the state and discussed key governance priorities.
Sources said the Cabinet held detailed talks on relief, rehabilitation, and long-term support for Internally Displaced Persons. The focus was on restoring dignity, safety, and livelihoods of families affected by the ongoing crisis. The government stressed the need for sustained efforts to help displaced people return to normal life.
The Cabinet also discussed the Panchayat Raj system in the state. In line with a Manipur High Court order directing that Panchayat elections be held within six months, the government decided to begin the election process. Sources confirmed that required administrative and procedural steps have already been set in motion to ensure the polls are conducted on time.
The meeting underlined the new government’s focus on humanitarian response, democratic processes, and administrative stability. It signalled the administration’s intent to move ahead with governance, relief work, and constitutional duties at the same time.
