Congress Announces Candidates for Seven Seats in Barak Valley

Silchar: The Indian National Congress on Tuesday released its list of candidates for seven Assembly constituencies in the Barak Valley for the upcoming Assam Assembly Election 2026.

From Silchar, the party has nominated Abhijit Paul. Ajit Singh will contest from Udharbond, while Aminul Haque Laskar has been named the candidate from Sonai. In Borkhola, the party has fielded Dr. Amit Kumar Kalwar.

For Lakhipur constituency, M. Shanti Kumar Singha has been selected as the party nominee. Jakaria Ahmed will contest from North Karimganj, and Kartik Sena Sinha has been named the candidate from Patharkandi.

Party sources said the selection was made after internal discussions and feedback from local leaders and workers. With this announcement, the Congress has kickstarted its election campaign in the Barak Valley region.

The Assam Assembly Election 2026 is expected to witness a multi-cornered contest across the state, with major political parties gearing up for an intense battle.
