Stakeholders Meet in Silchar to Ensure Smooth Paddy Procurement for KMS 2024–25

Silchar: In a proactive move to bolster the agrarian economy of Cachar ahead of the upcoming Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024–25, District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday with key stakeholders to streamline the paddy procurement process.

Held at the Cachar district headquarters, the meeting brought together officials from the Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs (FPD and CA) Department, Agriculture Office, Food Corporation of India (FCI), and representatives of the Farmers’ and Millers’ Associations. The focus was on ensuring a transparent, timely, and farmer-centric procurement process for the second crop of the season.

Known for his result-oriented administrative approach, DC Yadav emphasized the administration’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests. He urged all departments to work in close coordination to achieve procurement targets, prevent delays, and maintain fairness across all stages of the process.

Additional District Commissioner (Agriculture) Roktim Baruah, ACS, Branch Officer (FPD and CA) Junali Devi, ACS, senior officials from FCI Silchar, and other stakeholders were present during the meeting. Discussions centered around infrastructure readiness, quality assurance, price mechanisms, and logistical coordination.

DC Yadav reiterated the importance of providing farmers with access to Minimum Support Price (MSP) benefits and ensuring a hassle-free offloading of their produce. He called for robust inter-departmental collaboration to make this season’s procurement a benchmark for good governance in agriculture.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to make KMS 2024–25 a model initiative, reinforcing the district administration’s sustained efforts to strengthen Cachar’s rural economy and agricultural resilience.
