Silchar: It has been over a month, yet there is still no trace of Raju Nath (40), a plumber with the Silchar Municipal Corporation. On August 20, he left his rented house at Rongpur Karatigram for work as usual and has been missing since.
Raju had been working for the corporation as a master-roll plumber for the past twenty years. A week after his disappearance, his wife, Saptami Nath, lodged a missing person report at Rongpur Police Station. However, with no significant progress even after a month, she recently reached out to Geeta Pandey, the Central Women’s Secretary of the organization Desire for Life, located on Panchayat Road in Silchar.
On Thursday afternoon, a meeting was held at the organization’s office where both Raju’s wife, Saptami Nath, and the couple suspected to be involved — Kanu Nath and his wife Ratna Nath — were called for discussion. The session was conducted by the organization’s District Legal Advisor and senior advocate Jyotiprakash Bhattacharjee.
Bhattacharjee stated that Raju’s wife alleged this was not the first time such an incident had occurred. About a year ago, Raju had gone missing as well, and it was later discovered that he had been staying at the residence of his colleague Kanu Nath and his wife Ratna. Based on that previous experience, she suspects the couple might again have a role in his current disappearance.
Geeta Pandey, Central Women’s Secretary of Desire for Life, said it was deeply concerning that a government worker could remain missing for such a long time. She urged the administration to conduct a proper legal investigation to locate Raju Nath at the earliest. Pandey also advised both Raju’s wife and the suspected couple to have faith in the Cachar Police.
Present at the meeting were the organization’s district president Tuku Khan, along with members Chandana Nath, Gopal Sharma, Geeta Chanda, Alpana Sharma, Anita Adhikari, Rinki Ree, Purnima Rabidas, Swapna Rabidas, Shipra Das, and Bapon Chakraborty.
