Silchar: In a significant step toward strengthening rural self-governance, the Cachar District Administration, in coordination with the Cachar Zilla Parishad, is set to convene the first session of the newly elected Zilla Parishad on August 6. The session will be held at 2 PM at Rajiv Bhaban, Silchar, in accordance with directives issued by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Government of Assam.

This inaugural meeting marks a key moment in the evolution of the Panchayati Raj system in the district. Pranab Kumar Bora, ACS, Chief Executive Officer of Cachar Zilla Parishad, has been entrusted with overseeing the session. He will conduct the oath-taking ceremony and supervise the election of the President and Vice-President, as per the provisions of the Assam Panchayat Act, 1994.

All newly elected members have been instructed to report on time, bringing their election certificates and valid photo identification. The proceedings will follow a strict schedule, and no adjournments will be allowed without valid justification. District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, has emphasized the need for timely and efficient conduct of the meeting.

The internal elections for Zilla Parishad office bearers will be held on the spot, ensuring a free and fair process. Detailed documentation will be maintained throughout, and the final results will be submitted to higher authorities within three days, as mandated by the department.

Officials involved in the planning have assured that all procedural norms are being meticulously followed, with a strong focus on transparency and democratic principles. As preparations near completion, both the District Administration and the Zilla Parishad are determined to ensure a smooth and impactful start.

This session is expected to set a constructive precedent for rural governance in Cachar and reaffirm the Assam Government’s commitment to empowering local institutions through participatory democracy.
