Agartala : In a decisive step toward strengthening Tripura’s infrastructure ecosystem, the School of Logistics, Communication & Waterways, SIPARD, AD Nagar and the Institution of Engineers (India), Tripura State Centre (TSC) on Monday launched an intensive five-day-long training programme for the State’s freshly appointed Graduate Junior Engineers (Grade l).

The programme was formally inaugurated by  Jitendra Kumar Sinha, Chief Secretary, Government of Tripura, at lE(l)-TSC’s auditorium in Pundit Nehru Complex, Agartala. The inaugural ceremony was chaired by Er. Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee, Chairman, lE(l)-TSC, and graced by Apurba Roy, lAS, Secretary (Finance; Agriculture Departments) and Director, SIPARD, as Guest of Honour.

Er. Susanta Dutta, Head, School of Logistics, Communication & Waterways, SIPARD, AD Nagar while delivering his welcome address, briefed about the purpose of this type of training and shared that inclusion of diverse topics viz. engineering ethics, conduct rules, contract and work management, disaster preparedness and site safety would enrich them in discharging their role and responsibilities.

Apurba Roy, in his address, stated that SIPARD is continuing efforts to build capacity at all levels of public functionaries by way of organising regular training sessions on different topics.

Delivering a galvanising keynote, the Chief Secretary congratulated the recruits and issued a stirring four-point directive:

1. “Engineers are nation-builders.” “We trust you to shoulder this noble responsibility and craft a society that is safer, stronger and sustainably built,” he affirmed.

2. Uncompromising ethics. He urged the trainees to be “intelligent managers” — fearless in resisting any unethical actions, both inside and outside the department. “Reclaim the public’s faith by delivering quality assets, on time, every time, and every rupee accounted for.”

3. He exhorted engineers to “embrace the tools that make good engineering great.”

4. Stand tall against wrongdoing. “Do not bend when confronted with unethical directives. You are the hope of a new era.”

Er. Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee in his chairman address reinforced the Chief Secretary’s message: “Every length of road you design, every bridge you certify, is built with hard-earned public money. Let this training be your launchpad, question relentlessly, learn voraciously, and translate knowledge into impeccable field practice.”

Prof (Dr.) Priyanath Das, Honorary Secretary, the institution of Engineers (India), Tripura State Centre (TSC) delivered the vote of thanks.

Four batches of training will cover all one hundred ninety-three newly recruited Junior Engineers of PWD, Tripura will continue for the entire month of July.
