KRC TIMES Barak Valley Bureau
Silchar: In a powerful stride toward inclusive governance, the Cachar district administration has successfully concluded a series of awareness and service delivery camps under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), reaching out to remote tribal communities across the district and ensuring vital government services at their doorstep.
The fortnight-long campaign, held from June 17 to 28, spanned across six development blocks and the Silchar urban area, with the objective of saturating welfare benefits among tribal populations under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. A total of 13 camps 11 in rural tribal belts and two in Silchar city witnessed enthusiastic participation, showcasing the power of grassroots engagement and administrative will.
The initiative was launched in Lakhipur Development Block, the only Aspirational Block in Cachar, with camps held at Lakhicherra, Lakhinagar, Kapakhal, Ramgaizang, and Diger Fulertal. Over 500 participants, including 370 direct beneficiaries from tribal communities such as the Hmar, Ranjbangshi, Barman, and Rongmei, availed services from various departments including Health, Agriculture, Veterinary, Fisheries, and Panchayat and Rural Development.
Support from organizations like the Bharat Sevashram Sangha played a crucial role in facilitating Aadhaar enrolments, Ayushman Bharat registrations, sickle cell screening, pension schemes, PM-Kisan applications, and MGNREGA facilitation.
The momentum continued on June 23 and 24, when Rajabazar Development Block hosted camps at Joypur Pt-III and Pt-IV, largely benefiting the Barman (Dimasa Kachari) community. Services such as caste certificate issuance, ration card distribution, Kisan Credit Card and Mudra Loan applications, along with MGNREGA job cards, were extended to around 300 villagers.
Subsequent camps in Tapang, Narsingpur, Kalain, and Udharband further cemented the campaign’s reach. In Sabaspur Naga Punjee (Tapang), the Naga community came out in large numbers, while in Choto Salganga (Narsingpur), members of the Khasia and Riang tribes availed numerous schemes. Damcherra Khasia Punjee in Kalain and Nayagram in Udharband saw participation from Khasi and Barman families, ensuring no tribal pocket was left untouched.
Meanwhile, Silchar city mirrored the same enthusiasm, with two dedicated DAJGUA camps held at Gandhi Bhawan, coordinated by the Regional Office of Information and Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone. Key dignitaries present included Sushil Bading, Under Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs; Unhale Ashish Vidyadhar, IAS, Commissioner of Silchar Municipal Corporation; Narsing Bey, District Development Commissioner; and P. K. Borah, CEO of Zilla Parishad. The event was further enlivened by a street play at Gandhi Bagh Park, which used cultural performance to raise awareness on tribal rights and entitlements.
In total, the DAJGUA campaign covered 13 locations, bringing together multiple government departments, NGOs, and community stakeholders in a united effort to bridge the gap between policy and people.
“This initiative reaffirms our commitment to ensuring that no tribal household remains unseen or underserved,” said a senior district official. “We have proven that governance can transcend geographical barriers when driven by empathy and purpose.”
The campaign stands as a landmark in Cachar’s developmental journey empowering marginalized communities and setting an example of how targeted outreach can transform lives. The above was stated in a press release issued by the Regional Office of Information and Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Assam.
