Agartala: A seminar on EV charging infrastructure and power system preparedness marked Energy Conservation Day in Tripura, hosted by The Institution of Engineers (India), Tripura State Centre, in association with the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). The event took place at the TSECL Conference Hall and brought together senior engineers, policymakers, and industry experts.
Er Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee, Chairman of IEI Tripura State Centre, presided over the programme. In his opening remarks, he drew attention to the pace at which India’s electric vehicle ecosystem is expanding and explained why distribution utilities need to gear up for the transition.
He said the shift to e-mobility is more than a change in transport habits. It is a chance to strengthen grid resilience, adopt smarter technology, and push sustainable energy practices across Tripura.
The keynote address was delivered by TSECL Managing Director Er Biswajit Basu, who attended as Guest of Honour. He presented the current picture of EV penetration in Tripura and across the country, backed by data and national trends.
He spoke about the rising need for charging infrastructure, operational challenges for DISCOMs, and the policy environment guiding EV rollout. He pointed to regulatory provisions and government incentives and explained how TSECL is aligning its strategies with national goals.
A technical presentation by Prof (Dr) Priyanath Das of NIT Agartala followed. He spoke on the “Impact of EV Charging Station Placement in Radial Distribution Networks” and introduced an EV Allocation Index-Based Solution.
His analysis covered voltage stability, network loading, and optimal charger placement, offering insights for planners and engineers working on large-scale EV integration.

Er Pradip Sutradhar, Additional General Manager of Electrical Circle–I, TSECL, added to the discussion with a session on EV behavior within power systems. He explained how charging affects demand patterns, feeder design, and overall load management. His talk helped clarify the engineering considerations involved in preparing distribution networks for widespread EV use.
The seminar also heard from Swapan Debbarma, General Manager (Tech), TSECL, who outlined the EV-related projects underway in Agartala. He described ongoing collaborations with government agencies and gave participants a clear sense of how these initiatives are progressing on the ground.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks from Er Mita Saha, Additional General Manager, TSECL. She acknowledged the contributions of all speakers, guests, and participants and noted that the discussions would support Tripura’s continued movement toward sustainable energy and electric mobility.
The seminar reaffirmed the commitment of IEI Tripura State Centre and TSECL to deepening awareness, encouraging technology adoption, and strengthening policy implementation for a more energy-efficient future.
