An Irreplaceable Loss to Silchar; MLA Dipayan Chakraborty Offers Heartfelt Tribute

Silchar: The passing of former Member of Parliament Kamalendu Bhattacharjee has cast a pall of gloom over Silchar and beyond, as people from all walks of life mourn the loss of a statesman, scholar, and beloved teacher. Known for his impeccable integrity, intellectual depth, and unwavering dedication to public service, Bhattacharjee leaves behind a legacy that has profoundly shaped the socio-political and educational landscape of Barak Valley.

Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty was among the first public representatives to visit the late leader’s residence to offer his final respects. Accompanied by party members and local dignitaries, Chakraborty spent considerable time at the house, consoling the grieving family and participating in the funeral procession with solemn dignity.

Later in the day, as Bhattacharjee’s mortal remains were brought to the Cachar District Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society an organisation with which he had been closely associated for years the MLA, representing both the community and the Red Cross, laid floral wreaths in a symbolic gesture of collective mourning. Members of the Red Cross paid homage, recalling Bhattacharjee’s commitment to humanitarian work and his invaluable guidance over the years.

Speaking to the media, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty expressed his deep sorrow and described the demise as a personal and public loss. “The passing of Kamalendu Sir is extremely painful. He was not just a teacher or a parliamentarian he was a living encyclopedia. His vast knowledge, his clarity of thought, and his ability to guide others made him a rare figure in our public life,” said the legislator, visibly moved.

Kamalendu Bhattacharjee served as an MP from Silchar and earned immense respect for his articulate voice in Parliament and his grounded connection with grassroots issues. However, beyond his political career, he was first and foremost an educationist a mentor to countless students, a thinker rooted in social reform, and a compassionate human being whose doors were always open to those in need.

His death marks the end of an era for Silchar an era defined by intellectual honesty, civil discourse, and tireless service. Tributes continue to pour in from former students, colleagues, political leaders, and common citizens, all of whom remember Bhattacharjee not just for what he did, but for who he was.
