Silchar: A significant step towards improving urban infrastructure in Silchar was marked today as the foundation stone was laid for the construction of a covered drain from the endpoint of Co-operative Lane to Rangirkhal under the Mukhya Mantrir Nagariya Pakipath Nirman Achani (MMNPPNA) for the year 2023–24.

The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 84.99 lakh, falls under Package No. SE/SIL/MMNPPNA/23-24/2 and aims to provide better drainage facilities and ease waterlogging in the area, especially during the monsoon season.

Dipayan Chakraborty, MLA of Silchar LAC, ceremoniously laid the foundation stone in the presence of local residents, officials, and members of the Public Works Roads Department (PWRD). The project will be executed by the Executive Engineer, PWRD Silchar and Udharbond Territorial Road Division.

Speaking at the event, the MLA highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring timely completion of civic infrastructure works and addressing long-pending urban issues. “This project is a part of the larger initiative to strengthen municipal infrastructure and improve living conditions in Silchar town,” he said.

Residents of the area welcomed the move, expressing hope that the construction of the covered drain will significantly reduce flooding and sanitation-related concerns. The project is expected to commence shortly and will be closely monitored by the concerned authorities to ensure quality and timely completion.
