Silchar: On the occasion of the birthday of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, a foundation stone laying ceremony was held at Jirighat Colony under Jirighat GP in Lakhipur.
The programme marked the formal start of construction work of a Durga Mandap, sanctioned with Rs 10 lakh under the MLA Development Fund for the year 2025–26. The initiative aims to strengthen community infrastructure and support cultural and religious activities in the area.
Minister Kaushik Rai attended the programme on Sunday and took part in the ceremonial beginning of the construction work. Speaking on the occasion, he extended his best wishes to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, praying for his good health and long life.
The minister expressed hope that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the state’s journey of development would continue to move forward with greater momentum. He also offered prayers to Goddess Durga for peace, progress, and well-being of the people of the region.
Local residents and community members were present during the programme and welcomed the initiative, stating that the Durga Mandap would serve as an important centre for social and cultural gatherings in Jirighat Colony.
