Borkhola: The Lions Club of Silchar Valley View organised a free Cataract Detection and Eye Check-up Camp at 1238 No. Shyampur LP School near Shyampur Kalibari (Kathal), in collaboration with Lions Eye Hospital and Youths Against Social Evils (YASE), Borkhola Assembly Committee, on Thursday.
A total of 123 patients were examined during the camp by renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Satyashree Debroy of Lions Eye Hospital, assisted by optometrists Sabina Yasmin Barbhuiya and Anupama Sharma, with staff support from Rupu Begum.
Sixteen patients were detected with cataract-related issues, of whom eleven have been selected for free surgeries to be conducted at Lions Eye Hospital. Additionally, 41 patients received free spectacles.
Representing Lions Club Valley View, Project Chairperson Subir Dey, Minara Laskar, and Guiding Lion Sanjeev Roy attended the camp. From YASE, Ward Member Ashwini Kumar Das, Tarun Das, Camp In-charge Rakesh Das, Ahad Barbhuiya, Sanju Nunia, and several others were also present.
Sanjeev Roy extended heartfelt thanks to the school’s Head Teacher, Debojit Kumar Das, along with Abhijit Roy and Ajit Deb, for their cooperation in hosting the camp. He also expressed gratitude to the residents of the area for their active participation and support in making the initiative a success.
Social worker Kulendra Das also contributed his support to the event. The organisers announced that more such free eye camps will be held in the coming days in other remote parts of the region.
