Silchar: In a commendable initiative to bring quality eye care to underserved communities, a free cataract detection and eye check-up camp was organised at M. Beni Madhab M.E. School in Dhamalia (Krishnapur) on Monday. The event was jointly conducted by the Lions Club of Silchar Valley View and the Lions Club of Silchar Central.

The camp, which ran from 11 am to 3 pn, saw enthusiastic participation from residents of greater Krishnapur and nearby areas. A team of optometrists from the Lions Eye Hospital, Silchar examined a total of 77 patients, offering not only diagnostic services but also essential guidance on eye health.

Significantly, patients diagnosed with cataracts were assured of free surgical treatment at the Lions Eye Hospital in Silchar in the coming weeks. Furthermore, 25 economically disadvantaged individuals were provided with free spectacles during the camp.

The initiative received vital support from the Youth Against Social Evils (YASE) Assembly Committee. Trupti Karmakar served as the camp-in-charge on behalf of YASE, ensuring smooth execution of the programme.

Prominent members representing the Lions Club of Silchar Valley View included Project Directors Minara Begum, Pushpabati Roy, Sahin Laskar, and Guiding Lion Sanjiv Roy. Key members from YASE present at the camp included Assembly Committee Convenor Nikul Alam Laskar, Tarani Karmakar, Saju Laskar, Noren Sinha, and Ahad Barbhuiya.

Sanjeev Roy extended special gratitude to the school’s Headmistress, Geeta Rakshit, for her active cooperation and seamless coordination, which played a pivotal role in the success of the camp.
