Silchar: After several weeks of critical repair and reinforcement work, the iconic Gammon Bridge is set to reopen for public use on Tuesday at 4:30 PM. The reopening marks a major milestone in restoring uninterrupted connectivity across the river, bringing much-needed relief to commuters and local residents.
The official announcement came from the General Manager (Project), NHIDCL, PMU-Silchar, confirming the completion of all repair work and clearance for resumption of traffic. The bridge has long served as a crucial artery for travel and transport in the Barak Valley region.
A formal reopening ceremony will be held on the Katigorah side of the bridge, where departmental officials, members of the public, and media representatives have been invited to witness the occasion. The event is expected to draw a large gathering, reflecting the bridge’s importance to the local community.
To ensure safety and smooth proceedings, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will be stationed at both ends of the bridge. Authorities have appealed to the public for their cooperation during the event and have assured that all necessary arrangements are in place for a hassle-free reopening.
The development has been welcomed as a symbol of resilience and coordinated effort by the administration and infrastructure authorities.
