GUWAHATI : Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Friday pledged to work for Assam’s welfare, unity, and inclusive development, drawing inspiration from the late singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg. In a statement shared on X, Gogoi said he intends to serve as a guardian of the state, guided by the values Garg stood for.

He framed his commitment around humanism, equality, and respect for diversity. Gogoi urged people to reject fear and hatred, and instead uphold compassion, accountability, and harmony in public life. He said Assam’s social fabric must be protected through active efforts to promote peace among all castes, religions, and communities.

Gogoi also underlined his commitment to environmental and social causes, noting that Assam’s rivers, hills, forests, and wildlife form an essential part of its identity. He said development must prioritise the poor and marginalized, and that social welfare should remain central to policymaking.

Preservation of Assamese culture and identity featured prominently in his message. Gogoi said Assam must continue to represent unity in diversity while encouraging progress and cultural pride side by side. He appealed to young people to carry forward these ideals and contribute to building an inclusive and forward-looking state.

By taking this pledge, Gogoi said he hoped to honour Zubeen Garg’s legacy of compassion and unity and inspire citizens across Assam to uphold the values the late artist championed.
