A minute’s silence was observed in memory of the departed soul

Silchar : Gurucharan University on Wednesday organised a heartfelt memorial meeting in honour of former English Department professor Kamalendu Bhattacharjee. Held at 4 PM in the university’s conference hall, the gathering brought together senior officials, faculty members, and non-teaching staff to reflect on the life and legacy of the late academic.
Present on the occasion were Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niranjan Roy, Registrar Bidyut Kanti Paul, Academic Registrar Dr. Abhijit Nath, and senior faculty member Prof. Chandan Pal Choudhury, among others.
Prof. Chandan Pal Choudhury opened the remembrance by highlighting key moments from Prof. Bhattacharjee’s life and career, recalling his deep impact on the institution and the academic community. Registrar Bidyut Kanti Paul described Bhattacharjee’s passing as an “irreparable loss to the world of education” and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
Sharing personal memories, Dr. Abhijit Nath spoke about Prof. Bhattacharjee’s compassionate personality, humility, and unwavering commitment to students and learning. He noted the professor’s rare ability to connect with ordinary people and inspire those around him.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niranjan Roy remembered Prof. Bhattacharjee as “a teacher in the truest sense,” remarking that even in his later years, he remained devoted to teaching—voluntarily offering English lessons to school students without regard to position or status.
Prof. Kamalendu Bhattacharjee served at Gurucharan College from 1968 to 1984. His decades-long contribution to education and mentorship was fondly remembered by all present. During the session, Finance Officer Dr. Ranabijoy Das read out a formal condolence message. A minute’s silence was observed in memory of the departed soul.
The programme was anchored by Prof. Mridul Mohan Das. As a mark of respect, Vice-Chancellor Roy announced a suspension of all academic and administrative work at the university for the rest of the day.
