Silchar: In a stirring show of patriotism and public unity, the Cachar District Administration on Thursday organised a grand Bike Rally and Foot Rally under the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga initiative, setting the tone for the 79th Independence Day celebrations. The events aimed to inspire pride in the national flag, honour India’s heritage, and strengthen bonds of unity across the district.

The rallies were flagged off from the District Commissioner’s Office by Mridul Yadav, District Commissioner, Cachar, along with Numal Mahatta, Senior Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Antara Sen, Additional District Commissioner, Hemanga Nobis, Additional District Commissioner; and Deepa Das, Assistant Commissioner-cum-Incharge, DDIPR Barak Valley Zone.

In a symbolic gesture of solidarity, DC Yadav and SSP Mahatta led the bike rally themselves, riding through major streets of Silchar. Along the route, citizens waved the tricolour and cheered, creating a festive atmosphere charged with patriotic fervour.

Addressing participants before the flag-off, DC Yadav said,

“The Har Ghar Tiranga initiative is not just a campaign—it is a reaffirmation of our national pride and shared responsibilities. By bringing the national flag to every home, we honour the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and strengthen our unity. I commend the people of Cachar for their spirited participation.”

The simultaneous Foot Rally saw vibrant participation from Self-Help Groups and Assam State Livelihoods Mission stakeholders, who marched in colourful attire, waving flags and chanting slogans of freedom and progress. Government departments coordinated the march, with banners and placards reinforcing the message that the national flag belongs to every household, and its spirit must live in every heart.

The DC extended his gratitude to all participating organisations, departments, and citizens for their cooperation, noting that such initiatives deepen the connection between the administration and the public, fostering respect for national symbols and values.

The twin rallies served as a fitting prelude to Cachar’s official Independence Day celebrations, showcasing the district’s inclusive and united spirit in honouring the nation’s freedom.
