Diphu : A high-level meeting was held at 4:00 PM yesterday at the Arboretum Centre, Diphu, to discuss the implementation of constituency-wise Ration Card distribution and the inclusion of new beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and Public Distribution System (PDS).
The meeting was presided over by Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), and targeted to streamline food security initiatives in both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts.
The meeting was graced by the Amarsing Tisso, Member of Parliament; Darsing Ronghang, MLA, Howraghat; Bidya Sing Engleng, MLA, Diphu; Executive Members (EMs) of KAAC, Members of Autonomous Council , Chairman of various Boards, departmental Secretaries, and senior officers from the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
During the deliberation, Tuliram Ronghang announced that 4,000 new beneficiaries will be included under NFSA in Karbi Anglong district, and an additional 4,000 beneficiaries in West Karbi Anglong district. Furthermore, 2,000 slots will be especially reserved for ex-servicemen and persons with disabilities, ensuring equitable access to essential food commodities.
To enhance local monitoring and execution, it was decided that NFSA Committees will be formed in each MAC constituency. In these committees, the MAC will serve as Chairman, with the LAMPS Chairman and Secretary as members.
At the district level, a District NFSA Committee will be constituted, with the CEM as Chairman, and MP, MLAs, District Commissioner and the District Food & Civil Supplies Officer (DF&CSO) as members.
Ronghang directed the Food and Civil Supplies Department to expedite the issuance of ration cards and ensure timely distribution of essential commodities such as rice, pulse, sugar, and salt to all eligible households.
