Fresh structures without approval will get no compensation

KRC TIMES Barak Valley Bureau

Silchar: The proposed 4-lane Greenfield Alignment, a high-speed corridor under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), will pass through 45 villages in Cachar district, according to a notification from the District Commissioner’s office.

The order makes it mandatory to seek prior permission from the DC’s LA Branch in Silchar before taking up any new construction or development activity within the notified alignment area. Any unauthorized structure, whether temporary or permanent, built after the issuance of the order will not be eligible for compensation during land acquisition or project execution.

The alignment covers villages including Salimabad, Chandinagar, Karai Kandi, Jagadishpur, Rajyeswarpur, Chandipur, Paikan, Talkar Grant, Khelma, Lakhicherra Khasia Punjee, Bhairabpur, Lakhipur, Baraitoli, and Rajagarh Khasia Punjee, among others.

Officials have stressed that the directive takes immediate effect. Residents and commercial establishments have been asked to comply fully, as violations could not only disqualify them from compensation but also delay the project.

Once completed, the Greenfield highway is expected to ease traffic on existing roads, provide a faster link for inter-district and inter-state travel, and give a major boost to the Barak Valley’s economic growth.
