Silchar: Radhamadhab College on Monday hosted the presentation of the Hrishikesh Shefalikona Memorial Award for the 2024–25 academic year, honouring six meritorious students from the Arts and Commerce streams who excelled in their undergraduate final examinations.

The award ceremony, held at the college auditorium, was attended by Dr. Suprabir Dutta Roy, Controller of Examinations at Assam University, as chief guest. Professor of Bengali at Assam University, Dr. Bela Das, graced the occasion as guest of honour, while Dr. Sanjib Deblaskar, president of the Cachar District Committee of the Barak Banga and former principal, delivered the keynote address.

The awardees included Ronald Zaparlien (English Honours), Debasree Roy (Philosophy Honours), and Khushbu Das (Education Honours) from the Arts stream, along with Commerce students Ankit Deb, Raju Tripura, and Binayak Dutta. The event was presided over by Acting principal Dr. Arundhati Dutta Choudhury.

Congratulating the awardees, Dr. Dutta Roy urged them not to treat this success as the end of their journey. “You must continue to work hard, gain skills in every field, and aim for greater achievements in the future,” he said.

Dr. Das stressed the importance of character alongside academic excellence, noting that society expects good students to also grow into good human beings.

Deblaskar spoke on the theme Beyond the Syllabus. He encouraged students to focus not only on diligent study but also on accuracy, and to draw lessons from life itself in order to broaden their understanding.

Dr. Choudhury described the day as a significant milestone for the institution. She congratulated the awardees and urged all students to pursue education with sincerity while growing into responsible individuals.

Speaking on behalf of the college’s donor family, engineer Angshu Kumar Roy expressed pride in supporting the initiative. He assured continued sponsorship of the award to encourage future batches of students.

The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp. Awardees received certificates and mementoes, while dignitaries were honoured with uttoriyo and souvenirs.

Among those present were donor members Angshu Kumar Roy and Dr. Anup Kumar Roy, Dr. Ashima Roy, Dr. Prabhat Kumar Sinha, Dr. Rahul Chakraborty, Radhamadhab College Alumni Association president Debashish Shome, Silchar District Sports Association secretary Atanu Bhattacharjee, and Dr. Abhishek Roy, along with teachers, staff, and students.

The programme featured an inaugural song by Prof. Baishali Chakraborty of the English Department, was anchored by Prof. Archismita Roy of the Political Science Department, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sonali Choudhury, Coordinator of IQAC.
