Silchar: In a major seizure, Cachar police intercepted a container truck at Pailapool in the Lakhipur police station area and recovered a large consignment of beer allegedly meant for illegal sale in Arunachal Pradesh. Two persons were arrested in connection with the incident.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Subir Kumar and Akshay Kumar, both residents of Motihari in Bihar.
Acting on a tip-off, police stopped the truck and upon inspection, found 490 cartons of beer belonging to two different brands, along with 530 cartons of mini noodles. The consignment was reportedly being transported to Jiribam in neighbouring Manipur.
Police sources said further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and determine whether the items were being smuggled for sale without proper documentation or tax clearance.This seizure comes at a time when authorities have stepped up vigilance along inter-state routes to curb illegal transportation of goods.
