Huge Consignment of Foreign Cigarettes Seized

Borkhola: In a major breakthrough against smuggling, Cachar Police on Thursday night seized a massive consignment of foreign cigarettes from the Balacherra area under Borakhola Police Station limits. Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a container truck bearing registration number RJ 07 GD 8613 and conducted a thorough search.

During the operation, police discovered a hidden chamber within the vehicle, from which they recovered 2,920 packets of foreign-made cigarettes. One individual, identified as Hema Ram, was taken into custody in connection with the seizure.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Numal Mahatta informed that the estimated market value of the confiscated cigarettes stands at Rs1.05 crore. Legal action has been initiated against the accused under relevant sections of the law.

The SSP further stated that Cachar Police will continue its intensified operations against narcotics and contraband items. “Our crackdown on illegal substances will remain ongoing,” he asserted.
