Itanagar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across Arunachal Pradesh starting Saturday. Several districts have been placed under alert for heavy to very heavy showers.
According to the IMD forecast, rainfall intensity will peak on Saturday, particularly in Tawang, West Kameng, Lower Subansiri, and Anjaw, where very heavy rain is expected. These districts have been advised to maintain preparedness, while Lower Dibang Valley may experience heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in isolated pockets.
Fairly widespread to widespread showers are also expected in East Kameng, Papum Pare, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Kamle, Upper Subansiri, Upper Siang, West Siang, Siang, Lepa Rada, Lower Siang, East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, and Dibang Valley districts.
The IMD attributed the upcoming wet spell to favourable atmospheric conditions and warned of potential disruptions, including traffic congestion, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and minor landslides in hilly regions.
Rainfall activity is likely to continue through Sunday, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in several areas, before gradually easing. Weather conditions are expected to improve by Monday, with only isolated light rain in some regions, and dry, clear skies anticipated by Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, several parts of the state witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall on Friday, with Tawang, West Kameng, Lower Subansiri, and Anjaw emerging as the most weather-sensitive zones. Intense spells and strong winds were reported in these districts.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid vulnerable areas prone to waterlogging or landslides. The IMD has also cautioned about possible power and communication disruptions due to squally winds and falling branches. Farmers have been advised to take preventive measures to protect crops and prevent soil erosion.
Local administrations have been requested to ensure prompt dissemination of safety advisories and preparedness measures to minimize the impact of the adverse weather conditions.
