Silchar: The prize distribution ceremony for the Independence Day drawing competition at Malugram Girls’ High School was held on Saturday, bringing to a close a lively cultural effort that saw strong participation from across Malugram.
The competition, organised by the school’s management committee on August 24, drew nearly 500 students from different schools. Participants competed in four age groups, and teachers along with committee members oversaw the event with care.
Saturday’s concluding programme on the school premises was attended by Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya as chief guest. BJP leader Basudev Sharma, school management committee president Dr Prabal Paul Choudhury, senior journalist Milon Uddin Laskar, and social workers Manoj Deb and Kishan Das were also present.
Headmistress Rupa Paul welcomed the guests with traditional uttariyos and portraits of Swami Vivekananda. She also outlined the school’s infrastructure needs and requested the MP’s support. In his remarks, Dr Prabal Paul Choudhury said the large turnout showed the students’ enthusiasm for art and their sense of patriotism.
Basudev Sharma noted that the drawings reflected themes of national pride, social awareness, and unity. MP Suklabaidya assured the gathering that steps would be taken to address the school’s infrastructure requirements. He added that such cultural activities help build national consciousness among young students.
Kishan Das said the National Flag drawing competition, held in the seventy-ninth year of India’s independence, encouraged children to think about the freedom movement. He presented the first prize in memory of his late father.
Trophies and certificates were distributed by MP Suklabaidya and the other guests. Students also performed dhamail and Assamese dances, earning warm applause from the audience. The ceremony ended with the National Anthem.
