Silchar: Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha on Monday met Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Ram Mohan Naidu in New Delhi to discuss the present status of the proposed Greenfield Airport at Doloo near Silchar and the need to restore and strengthen air connectivity to and from Silchar Airport.
During the meeting, Purkayastha apprised the minister about the importance of the proposed airport project for the Barak Valley region and sought an update on its progress. He said the airport at Doloo would play a key role in boosting connectivity, trade, and tourism in the area.
The Rajya Sabha MP also raised the issue of restoring and improving Air India flight connectivity from Silchar so that passengers from the region can access better and more frequent services to major cities.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu assured that the concerns raised would be looked into and that the ministry would examine the issues related to the proposed Greenfield Airport as well as air connectivity from Silchar.
