Diphu : The 74th Foundation Day of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) was celebrated with immense pride and festivity on Monday at Sarsing Teron Langkung Habe (Town Hall) in Diphu, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage and progress.
The event was led by Chief Guest Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, and Guest of Honor Amarsing Tisso, Member of Parliament.
Distinguished attendees included MLAs Darsing Ronghang (Howraghat) and Bidya Sing Engleng (Diphu), KAAC Chairman Raju Tisso, Padmasree Dhoneswar Ingti, Executive Members, District Commissioner Nirola Phangchopi, Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjib Kr Saikia, and other notable figures such as Kache Teronpi (wife of KAAC CEM) Humsing Bey, and Roland Killing, Karbi Anglong district BJP President.
The day was filled with vibrant cultural performances, traditional music, and displays of ethnic diversity, symbolising the unity of Karbi Anglong.

In their speeches, dignitaries traced KAAC’s evolution from its origins as the Mikir Hills Autonomous Council, established on June 23, 1952, highlighting advancements in infrastructure, education, and government scheme implementation.
Ronghang paid tribute to the visionaries who founded the Council, emphasising their sacrifices for self-governance and political recognition.
He announced the completion of several road projects under KAAC in 2025, with the remaining ones targeted for completion by March 2026. He also launched new websites for the Information & Technology and Art & Culture Departments, enhancing digital access and cultural preservation.
A highlight was the award ceremony, honoring individuals for their contributions to Karbi society: Semson Sing Ingti Award 2025: Pakhila Lekthepi, celebrated modern singer and Asom Gaurav Award 2024 recipient, Khorsing Terang Award 2025: Kangther Bey, noted singer and cultural activist, Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Award 2025: Dr. Alice Enghipi, the first Karbi MBBS graduate from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, Bonglong Terang Literary Award 2025: Hangmiji Hanse, distinguished poet and cultural contributor.
The CEM Special Award 2025 was bestowed upon Smti Nirola Phangchopi, the first Karbi woman to serve as District Commissioner. CEM Lifetime Achievement Awards 2025 recognised Biren Sing Engti, the first Karbi MP and union minister, Kache Teronpi, for achievements in sports and culture, Dhansing Rongpi, for youth and cultural development, Satyendra Terang, for contributions to Fine Arts and Mangal Sing Kathar, for preserving Karbi folk culture.
Certificates of appreciation were awarded to individuals like Miss Binita Chetry, 2nd Runner-up in ‘Britain’s Got Talent 2025 ’, and others, including Sashikala Hansepi, Jeevan Ingti (also honoured for Trinity College’s ‘Excellent Teacher Award’), and Sarbamon Engti for their work in music, dance, and art.
Ronghang noted that over 1,00,000 land pattas were distributed to indigenous people from December 2023 to April 2024, underscoring KAAC’s commitment to transparent and responsive governance.
The 74th KAAC Foundation Day celebrated Karbi Anglong’s legacy of self-governance, cultural pride, and ongoing development, uniting the community in a shared vision for the future.
