SILCHAR : Along with the rest of the country, Silchar too observed the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas on Saturday. The nation remembered the courage and valour of the Indian Armed Forces with deep reverence.

As India celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas, citizens across the nation paid homage to the bravery of Indian soldiers who laid down their lives for the country. Silchar was no exception. On the occasion of the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, a solemn programme was held at the Tarapur Kargil Victory Memorial, organised by Mera Bharat Yuba Cachar in association with Netaji Chhatra Yuba Sangstha.

Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, BJP Cachar District President Rupam Saha, and several dignitaries participated in the event, highlighting the significance and history of this day. They reminded that July 26 is not just a date in Indian military history, but a reminder of the ultimate sacrifices that ensure our peaceful lives.

It was on this day in 1999 that the Indian Army successfully conducted Operation Vijay, reclaiming Indian territory in Kargil from infiltrators and securing victory against Pakistan. Many brave soldiers were martyred during the fierce battles.

As a mark of respect, ex-army personnel Shuvendu Shuklabaidya was honoured at the memorial by the organisers. People from across the region, along with representatives from various organisations, paid floral tributes at the Shaheed Bedi, saluting the martyrs of the Kargil War.
