Silchar: Members of Sammilito Loko Parishad, Silchar, met Assam Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Mines and Minerals, and Barak Valley Development, Kaushik Rai, at the Silchar Circuit House on Friday.

The delegation requested the Minister to become the Chief Patron of the Parishad, a proposal he accepted. Leaders of the organization said his involvement would strengthen their work and give fresh momentum to their activities.

The meeting also touched on cultural issues, particularly the Dhamail dance, a hallmark of Bengali folk tradition in the Barak Valley. The Minister said the government was considering ways to promote Dhamail and that a state-supported festival could be held later this year. He further assured the Parishad of his full support.

Present on the occasion were president Dr. Anup Kumar Rai, general secretary Manoranjan Malakar, vice-presidents Dr. Suryasen Deb and Shekhar Deb, joint secretaries Soumik Paul, Rajshri Nath, Hira Suklabaidya, along with other members including Kamalesh Das.
