Imphal: The Kom Tribe Organisation Valley (KTOV) has appealed to the Manipur government to urgently intervene after a Manipuri student was brutally assaulted in Guwahati on September 12.

The victim, identified as Joseph Serto, a resident of Moirang Mantak Village in Bishnupur district, is currently pursuing an MBA course at NERIM, Khanapara. According to KTOV, he was attacked by a group of miscreants on campus after he said he did not understand or speak Assamese. The assailants allegedly beat him with helmets, leaving him critically injured. Serto is now in the ICU, fighting for his life.

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Secretary of Manipur, KTOV urged the state government to arrange Serto’s transfer to the best available hospital in India, with all medical expenses covered. The organisation further demanded registration of an FIR and strict action against those responsible.

KTOV also called on the Manipur government to take up the matter with the Assam government to ensure the safety of citizens, especially students from outside Assam.

“We humbly pray for immediate intervention to save the life of an innocent student and to ensure such incidents are not repeated,” said KTOV leaders L. Romio Kom, Secretary, and M.K. Mangte, Vice President, in their joint appeal.
