Silchar: A protracted land dispute in Berenga Part I has turned volatile, with a local couple alleging physical assault, eviction, and continued harassment by their relatives. Nur Mohammad Barbhuiya and his wife Rouji Ara Begum have appealed to the district police administration for immediate intervention and justice.

According to the couple, despite possessing all valid legal documents for their three-katha plot in Berenga Part I, they have been unable to access or reside on the land for the past seven years. They allege that Monir Ahmed Barbhuiya and his wife Anowara Begum, along with Amir Ahmed Barbhuiya and his wife Hasina Begum, have forcefully occupied the access road leading to the property and assaulted them when they attempted to enter the premises.

The couple filed a formal complaint with the Silchar Sadar Police Station on Friday, detailing the alleged long-standing encroachment and physical intimidation. In their complaint, they claimed they were attacked and driven out of their land despite repeated efforts to assert their ownership.

Living in fear, Nyr Mohammad and Rouji Ara have been staying at a rented house in Baskandi for the past seven years. Matters escalated again on Saturday when the couple reportedly attempted to fence the boundary of their land. According to their statement, they were again assaulted by the accused in a coordinated attack and had to flee the scene to ensure their safety.

Speaking to the media, a visibly shaken Rouji Ara Begum made a heartfelt appeal to the district authorities, seeking justice and legal protection. She urged the administration to take strong action against the accused individuals—Monir Ahmed, Anowara Begum, Amir Ahmed, and Hasina Begum—for what she described as years of illegal occupation and intimidation.

The case has drawn public attention in the area, and locals are closely watching how authorities respond to the couple’s plea for justice.
