Silchar: A long-standing property dispute in Ambicapur Part-VI, Silchar, flared into violence on Friday night (around 8 pm, September 19), leaving members of a local family injured and fearful for their lives.

According to a complaint lodged with Silchar Police, Fakrul Islam Laskar, owner and co-sharer of a plot measuring one bigha and four kathas under R.S. Patta No. 24, Dag No. 36, alleged that he and his relatives were attacked by co-sharers and their associates.

Those named in the complaint include Anwar Hussain Barbhuiya (Tulli), Aftab Hussain Barbhuiya, Aminul Hussain Barbhuiya, Babu Hussain Barbhuiya (son of Anwar), among others.

On Sunday, Sahidul Islam Barbhuiya, Fakrul’s brother, claimed the accused were attempting to sell the land illegally by obtaining NOCs and mutation certificates with fraudulent intent. “On Friday, I along with my relatives, Jusen Barbhuiya and Nazma Begum Barbhuiya, were physically assaulted with sharp weapons by the other co-sharers and their associates,” Sahidul said.

He added that he was threatened with further harm, leaving his family in a state of fear. The victims have appealed for urgent police action to prevent encroachment or damage to the disputed property.

Fakrul Islam said he has already approached the Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police, the District Commissioner, and even the Chief Minister of Assam, urging intervention.

Jusen’s mother, Nazma Begum, confirmed the assault. “We are living under constant fear after being repeatedly threatened and attacked over this dispute,” she said, calling on the authorities for protection.
