Silchar: Assam is mourning the loss of one of its most iconic cultural figures as legendary singer Zubeen Garg passed away on Friday (September 19) in Singapore. Widely regarded as the voice of a generation, Garg’s music transcended boundaries and earned him admiration across the Northeast and beyond. His untimely demise has cast a pall of grief over fans, admirers, and the artistic community.

The news of his passing spread quickly, prompting an outpouring of tributes on social media and in public spaces. From his soulful Assamese songs to his contributions to Bollywood and other regional film industries, Garg built a legacy that made him a household name. In the wake of this irreparable loss, the BJP Cachar district unit has decided to suspend all party activities as a mark of respect. District president Rupam Saha announced that the citizens’ meet, which was scheduled to take place on Friday, has been called off. He further confirmed that the marathon competition planned for September 20 will also be postponed.

The entire district is in mourning. The party has assured that new dates for the postponed programmes will be shared at a later time.

The death of Zubeen Garg leaves behind a void that will be difficult to fill. His songs, ranging from romantic ballads to powerful anthems, had become part of the cultural fabric of Assam. For millions of admirers, his music will continue to echo even as they come to terms with his passing.
