Silchar : The Lions Club of Silchar Valley View on Saturday observed the 83rd anniversary of the Quit India Movement, paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi’s historic call of “Karenge ya Marenge” that inspired millions to unite against British rule.

Led by Club President Bandita Trivedi Roy, members visited Gandhi Bagh Park where they offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and held an interactive discussion on various aspects of the movement with those present. The tribute was dedicated to honouring the memory of all martyrs of India’s freedom struggle.

As part of the occasion, the Club also launched a seven-day initiative, from August 9 to August 15, aimed at spreading awareness among children about India’s freedom movement, its leaders, and in particular, the Quit India Movement, often described as the mainstream of the independence struggle.

Among the dignitaries present were Project Chairperson Prasanta Bhattacharjee, Minara Laskar, Pushpabati Roy, and guiding Lion Sanjeev Roy.
