Imphal : Manipur Police on Wednesday recovered a live grenade along with a threatening note from the residence of Priyanka Gotimayum, first runner-up of the Miss Manipur 2017 beauty pageant, in Thoubal district.

Police said the handwritten note carried a direct death threat and bore the name of the banned outfit Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG). The message read: “We will give you a death sentence, Priyanka Gotimayum.”

Priyanka Gotimayum is a resident of Thoubal Kiyam Siphai Thong Ahanbi area under Thoubal Police Station in southern Thoubal district.

Following information received from police headquarters in Imphal, a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the spot at around 6 am. Security personnel cordoned off the area for nearly an hour as a precautionary measure before safely recovering the high-intensity explosive.

Police officials said the grenade was subsequently disposed of at a secluded location in Thoubal district in accordance with standard operating procedures.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the threat and identify those responsible.

Priyanka Gotimayum was crowned first runner-up at the Miss Manipur 2017 contest held on December 9, 2017, at the Bishop’s Olive Academy Trust Palace (BOAT) Compound in Imphal. Thounaojam Strela Luwang won the title that year, while Konthoujam Mangal Chanu finished as second runner-up.
